Menendez brothers make first court appearance in 28 years…
LYLE and Erik Menendez are scheduled to make their first court appearance in nearly 30 years as their fight for freedom begins.
The notorious brothers, who have been jailed since the 1989 double murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty, are due to appear in court virtually on Monday for a status hearing regarding their potential resentencing.
Lyle, 56, and Erik, 53, bid for freedom began when outgoing Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón, who was unseated on Election Day, filed paperwork on October 25, asking a judge to reconsider resentencing the brothers, citing new evidence.
Gascón, whose last day in office is December 2, asked a court to remove the life without the possibility of parole penalty for the brothers.
Instead, the district attorney recommended a sentence of 50 years to life with the possibility of parole.
A judge is expected to rule whether the December 11 re-sentencing hearing will proceed as scheduled or if more time is needed.

Monday’s high-profile status hearing was unlike most in Los Angeles.
A public lottery was held hours before the 10:30 pm PST court hearing to determine the 16 people who would be allowed inside the courtroom to witness what happens next in the case.
The drawing took place about two hours before the hearing.
The status hearing comes as reports swirled that Lyle is now in a relationship with a 21-year-old British student who has visited the infamous killer at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego.
Milly Bucksey, a student at the University of Manchester, sparked a relationship with Lyle at the start of 2024, according to the Daily Mail.
